I have been flying through the new year....Busy, busy! We have finished our name change, had a wonderful open house and have added Chan Luu jewlery to our lines, just to name a few. Clients are ready to renovate and things are happening! VandM is strong and we are so thankful for all of our repeat customers. We love our new ones, too! Philip is booked for pruning and design outside, now that the parties are over and I am booked for renovations inside. Headed to Miami to check out warehouse space and shop for clients!

Roberta Schilling wowed in her new space (she is pretty wow herself!) and (drum roll, please...) Serge de Troyer was hands down the best collection again! Bravo! Our new name is here! InsideOut Home and Garden. We love our outdoor spaces and have added to our family with Carolyn Carr of Vessel joining the fun. Carolyn has littered the parking lot and decorated the store and totally transformed the front of our shop with her gorgeous handmade clay pottery.

Philip showed up, worked the magic and no one can say anything except for "WOW!" We look good! Really good. You can, too. Let us help.

Our new website will be taking off in October at the same time as our name change. We are sprucing up in time for the holidays...that's a another story! But first the name change, next the art show, then the holidays!

knock offs

I often see knock offs of original designs and my heart drops. I believe in paying people for their creativity and their efforts. Most of us don't even know if it is a knock off! Take the time and educate yourself. Read, look online if you must. Granted we can't all afford an original Van Gogh, but you can certainly strive for the best.

Once you see, touch, and experience the real thing, you'll know. Then if a "bargain" gets the better of you, remember, there is an attorney waiting in the wings and you have just been part of a crime, of the intellectual kind. Our resources are exploited and so are our imaginations.

Our Story

Part of the pleasure of travel is finding unique things that reflect the beauty of another culture. On a trip to Morocco in the early '90's, Glenn and Ellen Wunderley discovered classically beautiful wood boxes fashioned in tiny shops. These boxes, and the burled Thuja wood they were made from were so exquisite that we believed that people in the U.S., who would never have an opportunity to travel to Morocco to appreciate them, would be interested in purchasing them if they were available here.

For this reason, we formed Wunderley Imports. Since that time, we have made many additional trips to this exotic land where the souks are filled with artisans working with the most basic materials and tools. The art they create reflects the beauty of a culture that Europe knew as the Moors in Spain - a culture rich in Islamic art as it melded with other ideas at this crossroads of Africa, Arabia and Europe. We were fascinated by the ability of a poor people to create beauty from what we in America would consider nothing. We were happy to work with hardworking craftspeople to encourage quality control and to introduce some of their products and culture to the American market. This culture includes classic Moorish pottery designs, Moroccan tea accessories, henna designs and items fashioned of camel bone.

Our travels also led us to other treasures of the Mediterranean region that we had not seen in this country. In Damascus, another ancient crossroads, we found artisans skilled in the old art of Intarsia, or inlay of fine wood, shell and mother-of-pearl in wood boxes and furniture, as well as Damask and Damascene silk brocade.

It is our pleasure to continue our search for fine products new to the U.S. market. We receive personal satisfaction by being able to offer an outlet to a number of superb craftspeople. But, when we chose to put our name on the company, we made a commitment to quality, value and customer satisfaction. We are proud to stand behind our name, knowing that it stands for uniquely beautiful products and your satisfied customer.

Part of a successful house is the cleaning and taping and hauling and fluffing and making beds and on and on! Bygie and Mandy, the painting was perfect as was the "I Dream of Jeannies"! John, thanks for the muling and lifting and all around support. Anna the homemade soup was the best! Not to mention your endless energy!

Gin, thank you for trusting us to fill your home with beautiful things from our shop. Your mom's rehabilitated sofa and chair are incredible! The artwork is fabulous and Rick did a wonderful job on the cornices and drapery installations.

The Industrial Revolution has flooded the market and we are turning away from the now Restoration Hardware look. It is likeable, however, we have always been a proponent of a mix. A wooden piece here, perhaps a metal piece there. Add some luxurious velvet, original art and an antique rug. Do not continue around the room with the same thing! Over and over....my head is spinning and my eyes hurt!

In our little part of the world where traditional northerners and southerners mix their traditional furniture with a coastal flair, transitional is good and adds a new twist for the cautious. (For those of you who still think Tommy Bahamma bedding on a Rice Planter bed is a fabulous Floridian decor, think again). However this past market, even the prior spring market, was a sad song from a broken record....beige, beige, beige....Everyone jumped on the one look that was marketed to masses.

To the creative geniuses, BRAVO! For those who recognize that genius, Hooray for us! There are so many wonderful designers and ideas, don't hand me that lame, "But I love that look." The love affair is over!

Look for beautiful cleaner lines, textures and pure luxury. The same direction we've been heading. Art is always so important. Put your own stamp on your own home. Buy original art! Put some effort into lighting, like a handblown pendant light! Rugs are another work of art. They last for decades and even longer. Why not get the good stuff? Stop being a disposable consumer and purchase what you love, something worth handing down.

rocky and pinky have both reminded me that my faith and spirituality are guiding me on my journey...recently i travelled to birmingham the place of my birth and where the bulk of my family reside...it was dismal...rainy day after rainy day....i dreamed of the sunny beaches of cumberland and the warm love of fernandina...arent we the luckiest people to live in this paradisiaiacle realm...scouted the competition there and realized once again just how fantastical our store really is and how completely wonderful is robyn's eye for great stuff...thanks to todd and brian for allowing us to help get their house together for the holiday tour...these guys rocked a former burned out crackhouse into an incredible reno....we are also thankful for so many wonderful clients....the big "C" and the beautiful eccentric diva, the Reverend "P" and all the new design clients that are having so much fun redoing their spaces....cant wait to come home and play for a bit before i return to savannah....see you soon plscpv

i am so happy about this muggy weather...it is almost november and i am not freezing yet...woo hoo!!! october is my favorite month of the year anywhere in the southeast...when the air cools down just a bit and you can smell the fires burning and taste the tailgate whisky in your teeth and the homecoming queen is so pretty waving from the parade float...i heard they don't throw candy anymore bc it isn't safe...i hope that's not accurate....i remember being a little boy on the sidewalk in front of the elementary school back in the days when the entire school moved outside to watch the parades go by....or my mom checked us out to go downtown to watch from the sidewalk in front of Asman's department store where i was the little boy newspaper model....and later riding with my scout troop or on a club float...so that said i love fireworks and parades about as much as orange juice and good tequila....also i want everyone to know that the best best best tasting fructacular experience is available now at the natty foods and other grocers...fuji generally leads the market for overall sugar and juice content but grab yourself a sweet sweety called HONEYCRISP...truly the apple to beat all other apples...i feel like a hayride and a haunted house...anybody wanna go?
robyn is recently returned from market...yes she shops alot...woo hoo...i cant wait to see all the treasures...i know she ordered a tree trunk planter for me to use in a project...maybe a moss mound or orchid composition...then again i do like succulents a great deal too....cumberland is alive with migratory birds and gators and a great deal more humans than i am accustomed to...the secret is out...creek nation baby....plscpv

"You don't have to live like a refugee"!

Everyone has a different perception of their own home and often what is in that person's head, is not happening in that home. We very often hear..."Oh, I love to come here for ideas"...then soon after that we hear..."it just doesn't look like it did in your store or online"! First of all, online shopping scares me. I am forced to do it through many of my vendors, but I don't like it! That is why I travel long distances and walk my feet off to find the most interesting things around.

The world is full of beauty and artists are always creating. It is in their DNA, they can't stop. (I like to give those talented folks their due.) I am happy that people like to browse, we encourage it! That is how you learn, how you acquire taste. Take adavntage of those that are skilled and ask for help. Designers have a wealth of knowledge, if you will just give them some freedom and a little trust, the results are pretty fabulous!

We offer help in these areas. We can teach you to put it together and recommend designers and other artisans and contractors to assist you in your quest. For those of you who know what you like, but need resources, we are here for you, too!
